Debora Knight: Director
Debora Knight received her training in the Lansing Michigan area. As a young dancer, Ms. Knight became a member of the Lansing Ballet children’s company under the direction of Jacob Lascou. Moving through the children’s company to the Senior company from corp to soloist. Ms. Knight also became a member through an audition for the International Dance troupe under the direction of Ms. Terri Gouze. Through her performing years, Ms. Knight danced for several regional venues throughout the Midwest. Continuing her training in the major studies of dance through Dance Masters in her later years.
In 1986 Ms. Knight opened her first dance training center in Belding Michigan. Moving to the Manistee, MI area in 1990 Mrs. Knight opened the Conservatory of Dance Manistee where she trained and educated her students in the art of Ballet, Jazz, tap, musical Theater and much more. Ms. Knight has been a member of the Northern Michigan Dance Council and has had many years of collaborative association with Jefferson Baum, BLFAC, and Grand Valley College. Many of the students from the Conservatory regularly attend outside performing arts programs with full or partial scholarships, such as Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and Interlochen Academy. Many of The Conservatory of Dance alumni have gone on to college programs, danced for the Boston Ballet, Young Americans, Broadway, and Television.
Throughout her teaching career, Ms. Knight has choreographed several full-length stage productions for the Manistee Civic Players including Fiddler on the Roof, Oklahoma, South Pacific, Princess and the Pea, Pirates of Penzance and much more.
Ms. Knight continues her dance training, keeping up with current styles and methods to be able to bring a fresh contemporary feel to the professional foundation provided to her students.
